Ari Mendes was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Growing up in a musical family, at 7 years old he started taking piano lessons, at 10 he enrolled in classical guitar studies, and at age 12 he took on the drums.
When he was 16 years old, he started working as a studio and live performance musician. His musical talent quickly developed into a career as a producer and recording engineer with many top artists in Brazil. Ari has worked with Ney Matogrosso, Leila Pinheiro, Evandro Mesquita, Erasmo Carlos, Antonio Adolfo, Angela Ro Ro, Sandra Sa, Odette Ernest Dias, Sidinho Moreira, The Globo Network, Sony Records, Polygram, and Universal, just to name a few.
He also produced many syndicated TV shows and soundtracks, jingles, spots, voice overs for Armacao Ilimitada, Roque Santeiro, Juba eLula, and many more. In 1989 was a finalist at the prestigious “Sharp Award”, regarded as being the Brazilian Grammy.
Ari Mendes moved to Boston in 1989, where he built his first recording studio and established the Ari Mendes Productions “CAMARIM” record label. He was also the creator of the trailblazer “Amazonas Band”, which was the very first Brazilian band in New England, and a leader in the Boston music scene from 1989 through 1993.
Currently, he’s producing and performing with artists in the Boston, New York, and Florida circuit, including Joe Match, Alfredo Cardim, Angelia Bell, Frank Gambale, Jetro da Silva, New Revelation, and many others.
Ari Mendes was the music coordinator and the main performer for the Brazil 500 years Celebration, promoted by the Brazilian Consulate in Boston. A sample of his performance venues include Harvard, Museum of Fine Arts, Foxboro Stadium, Fenway Park, Boston College, MIT, UMass, the Brasilian Consulate, Berklee School of Music.
His record label, “CAMARIM”, and his state-of-the art studio are well known “go-to” resource appreciated by artists from around the world. His capabilities offer not only the best equipment and sound quality, but also a knowledgeable and friendly staff (everyone is a musician), comfortable facilities, and honest and low key support in the publishing, marketing, distribution, copyright and career guidance areas and the business of music in general .
Ari is now working with Sound and Vision Media in Revere, MA as a Music Producer and Audio Engineer. He instinctively knows how to create, organize and maintain the perfect creative environment for musicians and vocal performers.
Ari Mendes is an accomplished guitar, bass, keyboards and percussion player, and he’s at home with many styles of music, including Rock, Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Samba, Bossa, Latin, and Classical music. He’s also a recording, mixing and mastering studio engineer, a MIDI specialist since 1985, a connoisseur and collector of vintage microphones, pre-amps, compressors and of course guitars. As a result of being very active on the Florida’s cultural scene, Ari’s Jazz Trio was the house band at Donald Trump’s prestigious Mar-a-Lago Club for three years.
Additional performances included the The Breakers Hotel, Tradition City Place, and Jazz festivals such as the Riverwalk Jazz, Zorafest, Riviera Beach Jazz and Blues Festival, Fort Pierce Mardi Gras, just to name a few. He’s also a newsletter writer for the Blues Alliance of the Treasure Coast.
Ari’s main passion is guitars, music production, motivational speaking, teaching and demonstrating healing through the physics behind music and sounds.
His band, The “Ari Mendes Experience”, performs at theaters, clubs, churches, prisons, institutions, corporate events and they deliver an entertaining mix of Blues, Jazz, Rock, Brazilian, Latin, Classical and Gospel music. He also teaches guitar, music perception, audio and MIDI engineering, film scoring and recording arts.
